A limited number of working students are accepted. It
is a serious commitment and
responsibility to be accepted as a working
student.
Working students are often looked up to as 'role model's' for the
younger riders and other clients. Working
students are to be courteous, polite and well mannered. They are to
conduct themselves in a manner consistent with this philosophy.
Applicants should be self-motivated,
self-disciplined, dependable and organized. Applicants must have their
parent's permission, prior to being considered or accepted as a working
student.
The
working students gain valuable insight and the hands-on experiences to
possibly look towards the future with a successful career in the equine
industry. They work along side and learn from a staff of proven equine
professionals, including trainers, instructors, judges, appraisers, farriers
and veterinarians.
Working
students take an active role in stable management, equine nutrition,
first aid, grooming, tacking/untacking, equipment care and general equine
care.
Working students may be asked to ride, school or hack during their
work hours at the sole discretion of Payne Farm Too management. No
additional credits are given.
The
farm and various equine professionals associated with the farm's operation
are happy to provide references for working students who have successfully
completed the program.
It is
suggested that working
students arrive fifteen minutes before their scheduled work time.
This allows them a few moments to get settled and be prepared to begin
their working obligation on time.
Working
students should be properly attired in a professional fashion.
Tube tops, short shorts, lude, crude or suggestive clothing is
unacceptable. Working
students are encouraged to bring a change of clothes in case they get
wet, dirty, hot or cold. A second floor location will be provided each
work day for their duffle bag, back pack, lunch cooler, etc. All items
are to be taken home at the end of each work day. Working
students are responsible for their own lunch, drinks and snacks.
For
each hour worked, the working student will be credited 10 points. Each 50
point credit will entitle the working student to one riding lesson.
There is no cash value to points or credits. Riding lessons may be
scheduled on a non-working day or special permission
may be granted for a lesson after the work day. Generally
speaking, working
students are not permitted to schedule riding lessons during their work
time. Working students who
are interested in attending horse shows, hunter paces, fox hunts, etc. must
make arrangements with their trainer and parent(s) before signing up.
In the
event that a working student needs to adjust the schedule, they must obtain
prior approval from Payne Farm Too. It will be the responsibility of the
working student to find a replacement to work for them and notify Payne Farm
Too of the change. Parents
who allow their child(ren) to be working student(s) are ultimately
responsible to make sure there is strict compliance with the guidelines,
schedule, food and clothes. Working students who do not show up, or follow
their agreed upon working schedule with the barn will receive one warning.
The
second offense will
incur a strict penalty and if a third offense occurs the
working student will be terminated and may be subject to a cash penalty
fee.
The
farm depends on the schedule with their working students.
